Where did Christmas in July come from?
Well, before I tell you to Google it for yourself, I can tell you (I just googled it), that it started in 1933. I am shocked because this sounded like a marketing ploy from 1992. With further research, it may have originated even earlier.
I have been mulling this latest Recipe Card since last Christmas 2025. I was making eggnog with my nephew. Wait, another history mistake. A few years ago, I was in a wholesale show with my stationery. (I think I am still paying for its 'un-success'). Someone visited my booth from the local Christmas shop and asked if I had a Christmas line.
A few years later, I guess I am finally getting to it. Making eggnog with my nephew merely expedited the reminder. Thus 8 months later, it is finally done.
Yeah fine. So I let it marinate. That's what you're suppose to do with food, right?
There is an ultimate goal in mind of how many recipe cards I will create. The thing is, I don't put this goal at the highest priority. Therefore they come and go through my creative-sphere as they please – so to speak. I design by day and my art is secondary. Therefore, this is secondary.
When I have an idea, though, I can't get it out of my head until I finish the 'thing', whatever it may be. I was talking to a sister about this yesterday. There is a nagging feeling internally and the goal can't be ignored. Since making eggnog with my nephew, I wanted to get this card made so I can send it to him.
Painting the food items is meditative. I already painted 2 other heavy cream items. In wanting to make sure each card has a unique look, I used this brand Origin. I am unfamiliar but maybe you've seen it. Then I was loving the process, I went ahead and did a nutmeg version. All these little paintings, add up in painting practice.
The hardest part is getting the actual recipe. I had several eggnog attempts in my planners from 2024 and 2025. I needed to make a standard recipe. My biggest reminder in these recipes, though, is that these are a starting point! PLEASE make it your own. You can add more sugar, take more out, use one part cream one part milk.
Add other spices if you want.
The MAIN thing, like when I made this with my nephew, that you make it with someone and you make it to share with someone.

I wonder how many people buy these cards to frame and display in their homes. One day, I'd like to have them all hanging up on a display wall.
