History: Completed in 1874. The U.S. Custom House, Knoxville’s first federal building, was built of local limestone known as “pink marble.” Expanded in 1910 and again in the early 2000s. Headquarters for Knox County Public Library’s Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection, the Knox County Archives, and the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image & Sound. Offices of the East Tennessee Historical Society, established in 1834. Its first floor museum displays more than 600 artifacts from the region’s 35 counties. Located on South Gay Street in Downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.
