History: Completed in 1982. Built for the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville. Designed by Community Tectonics as the fair’s main theme structure. The seven-story sphere is comprised of glass panes layered with 24-karat gold dust, supported by a six-pillar, steel-truss structure, standing 266 feet high. Admission was $2 during the fair. The observation deck is open to the public. Located in World’s Fair Park in Downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.
